Who should Everton appoint as their new manager?

Sam Allardyce, Manager of Crystal Palace looks on after the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Hull City at Selhurst Park on May 14, 2017 in London, England.

Former Arsenal attacking midfielder Paul Merson has told Sky Sports that Everton should appoint Sam Allardyce over Paulo Fonseca and Martin O’Neill as their new manager.

Everton are on the hunt for a new manager, and Allardyce, Fonseca and O’Neill all have been linked.

According to The Guardian, former Newcastle United and West Ham United boss Allardyce, 63, is wanted by the Toffees.

The Independent has claimed that Everton have their eyes on Shakhtar Donetsk manager Fonseca, while The Mirror has reported that O’Neill is on the radar of Everton.

Former Arsenal star Merson believes that Everton should hand the managerial job to Allardyce.

“I’ve got to give it to Sam,” Merson told Sky Sports. “I think they’re in trouble and they’ve got to give it to Sam Allardyce.

“The lad at Shakhtar, he’s supposed to be very good but [Leonid Slutsky] was very good at Moscow and look where Hull are at the moment.

“It takes time and he [Slutsky] probably will succeed at Hull but he’s going to need time to do that. Everton haven’t got any time.

“Martin O’Neill has been out of day-to-day football for a long time. Sam keeps you up, in my opinion.”

One can understand Merson’s argument. Everton are in danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season, and it would make sense for them to hire a manager who can take them out of this mess.

Allardyce knows how to keep clubs in the Premier League, and in him, the Toffees will have a safe pair of hands who will get the job done.
