Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has asked a question of Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge on SkySports.com.

Merson has asked whether Sturridge, who is in good form at the moment, can do play consistently well for 10 games in a row.

The 29-year-old striker scored a superb goal in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea away from home at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League last weekend.

The former Manchester City striker – who earns £120,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – also found the target in the Reds’ 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Anfield in the third round of the Carabao Cup last week.

Merson wrote on Skysports.com: “If Raheem Sterling, who has been great for City, doesn’t play in a certain game he wouldn’t really be missed but Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Virgil van Dijk, the full-backs and James Milner they have to play all the time otherwise the team gets severely weakened.

“Someone like Daniel Sturridge has come in and done well but can he do that for 10 games on the trot?”

Super-sub

Sturridge is not guaranteed a place in the Liverpool starting lineup, and unless any key player gets injured, it is going to stay that way.

The England international, though, is a very good goalscorer and is able to pop up with quality strikes, as he did against Chelsea.

While it is going to be hard for the former Chelsea striker to make impact as a substitute, if the creative players behind him are able to provide him with chances, then he will convert them.
