Son Heung-min is one of the best players in the Premier League and is a key figure at Tottenham Hotspur, and the attacker underlined his importance to his team again at the weekend.

Tottenham return to action in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon with a comfortable 4-0 win against Crystal Palace at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The star of the show for Mauricio Pochettino’s side was South Korea international Son, who scored twice.

The 27-year-old, who can operate as a winger or as a forward, found the net in the 10th minute and then on 23 minutes.

Son had a very good game overall, and his performance impressed former Arsenal star Paul Merson and Palace manager Roy Hodgson, who made a very encouraging observation about him and wishes that he had a player like him in his team.

Hodgson told Football.London about Son: “Well, they have other good players in the team and I have to say Son’s performance in the first half was outstanding.

“It was also interesting in the last minutes of the game he was the one sprinting back into position to try and stop us score a goal.

“I can’t speak for Mauricio Pochettino, but if I had a player do what Son did today I would be really delighted.”

Merson told Sky Sports: “He’s willing to run without the ball and that’s priceless. A lot of players want to make runs and they need to get the ball otherwise they’re not going to make runs.

“He doesn’t. He’s constantly making runs which pushes the defenders back.”

Title challenge

Liverpool and Manchester City may be the two strongest teams in the Premier League, but Tottenham do have the chance to win the title this season.

Spurs have challenged in recent years, and with City slipping up at the weekend, there is no doubt that the North London outfit can at least push the Citizens and the Reds.
