While discussing how worried he is about Everton, Paul Merson has said that Anthony Gordon, who has joined Newcastle United did not particularly perform during his time at the club.

However, the St. James’ Park faithful may not be particularly over the moon to hear this, considering they signed the youngster for a cool £45 million fee (Sky Sports) in January.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Paul Merson has clearly been unimpressed with Anthony Gordon during his time in an Everton shirt, who has since signed for Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United.
“I really worry for Everton. they have been completely and utterly weakened.”
“The lad’s gone to Newcastle [Anthony Gordon], I didn’t completely agree with that. He wasn’t pulling up trees at Everton but it was still another weapon for them. If he clicked like he did at the end, I do worry for Everton.”

While it’s clear that Paul Merson did not intend any malice towards Anthony Gordon with his assessment, he does think the ex-Everton wideman had done enough to earn a big-money move to Newcastle.
