Aston Villa were denied by a late goal yet again on Wednesday night.

For the second time in four days, Aston Villa were denied victory due to a late goal.

Aston Villa were leading Brentford 1-0 for much of Wednesday night’s clash at Villa Park, after Jonathan Kodjia opened the scoring on 19 minutes.

The Villans looked set to record just their second Championship win of the season, but John Egan grabbed an 88th-minute equaliser to deny Roberto Di Matteo’s side.

On Sunday, Di Matteo’s troops were on course to beat Nottingham Forest in the West Midlands, but a late Henri Lansbury goal denied them the three points on that occasion too.

It is four dropped points for a Villa side who only have seven of them so far, from seven Championship outings, and fans must be losing their mind.

Club legend Paul McGrath also seemed unhappy afterwards as the ex-Republic of Ireland defender aired his views on Twitter, commenting that Egan’s equaliser was too easy.

Everybody knew the Championship was going to be tough, but it is proving worryingly difficult for a side who signed tried-and-tested striker at this level Ross McCormack, along with proven Premier League quality like James Chester and Mile Jedinak.

They are only eight points adrift of the automatic promotion spots, but on this form, that gap looks like growing bigger rather than shorter.
