Paul McGrath has suggested in The Irish Independent that signing Kalidou Koulibaly would make Liverpool unstoppable.

The former Manchester United central defender has raved about Koulibaly, and believes that the Napoli central defender would be a brilliant addition to the current Liverpool team.

A report in Napoli Magazine in May claimed of Liverpool’s interest in the 29-year-old, while Corriere dello Sport (print edition, Sunday, page 11, June 21, 2020) has claimed that the Reds have already made a bid for the centre-back.

McGrath wrote in The Irish Independent: “I’ll be astonished if he is not playing in English football next season.

“Chelsea want him, the two Manchester clubs want him. But imagine if Liverpool went out and got him and paired him with Van Dijk?

“Strikers in English football, and across Europe too, could just give up. You would not get many goals past those two with Alisson behind them.

“It’s the way Liverpool have to be thinking now. It’s the way the Anfield club always behaved in the glory days.”

Good signing for Liverpool?

Koulibaly has not been at his best for Napoli this season, but the 29-year-old is one of the best central defenders in Europe.

The Senegal international is at his prime at the moment, and he would be able to make an immediate impact on the team at Anfield.

Dejan Lovren has proven to be error-prone, while Joe Gomez is still quite young and developing.

Virgil van Dijk is one of the best central defenders in the world, and pairing him with Koulibaly would make Liverpool extremely tough to break at the back.
