Aston Villa had been on a brilliant run before their defeat to Reading on Saturday.

Aston Villa legend Paul McGrath has seemingly moved to restore a lot of confidence that may have been lost following the Villans’ defeat to Reading on Saturday by taking to Twitter to thank Steve Bruce and the squad.

Bruce has endured a mixed time since taking over from Roberto Di Matteo earlier in the season, with many fans beginning to question whether he was the right man to inspire the team to a future promotion charge after a very slow start.

However, while their recent form may have come too late to inspire a play-off push, it has certainly given the Villa supporters a lot to be optimistic about heading into next season.

Following their defeat to Newcastle back in February – the 2-0 loss was Villa’s fifth defeat in a row – Bruce’s men went on a sensational run of winning seven in their next eight, incredibly keeping clean sheets in every single victory during that run.

And seemingly with the intention of lifting spirits following the draw with Burton and defeat to Reading, Villa hero McGrath took to social media to send out an overwhelmingly positive message regarding the club’s form.

The Tweet perhaps reminds everyone associated with the club that while ending the season with a poor run of form is not ideal, the results from the final four games of the campaign should not be the sole focus – even with a clash against Birmingham still on the horizon.

Instead, the focus should be on doing as much work as possible heading into next season. And building an incredibly positive atmosphere amongst the team, staff and fans is a key part of that.
