Aston Villa secured back-to-back clean sheets at home and recorded a point against West Ham United on Monday night.
Paul McGrath praised the ‘brilliant’ defending as Aston Villa and West Ham United recorded a sluggish goalless draw at Villa Park on Monday night.
A game with very few clear cut chances, it was the sending off of Arthur Masuaku in the second-half which was one of the main talking points, with Mike Dean awarding him a second yellow.
Many thought that would spring Villa into life, but instead, it was the away side who were the better team as the points were shared on the night.
After the game, Villa legend, McGrath shared his thoughts on the game and stated on his personal Twitter account that it’s a ‘learning curve’ for Dean Smith’s side.
“Not the best game iv ever watched,” McGrath stated on Twitter. “But, with West ham Utd playing as well as they were, anything we took from this is Ok. Some brilliant defending. Little more confidence when they had a man sent off. Learning Curve.”
Villa will no doubt be happy, in the end, to walk away with a point because it means they are now out of the bottom three.
Smith’s side weren’t at their best, especially during the second period, as they produced their worst passage of play when the sending off occurred.
As for West Ham, they move into the top-eight and maintain their recent good run of form, as they are one of six teams who are on eight points.
