Aston Villa are yet to pick up any points on the road this season, but they will feel hard done by following their defeat at Crystal Palace.

Jack Grealish of Aston Villa not happy after getting a Yellow Card from Referee Kevin Friend

Paul McGrath was left annoyed by referee Kevin Friend after he disallowed Aston Villa’s late goal during their 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

It was adjudged by the official that Jack Grealish dived during the build-up to Henri Lansbury’s strike, but replays proved that was not the case.

Villa legend McGrath questioned why Friend didn’t look at VAR for help after he made his mistake as he believed that referees are feeling pressured not to ‘overuse it’.

Since its introduction this season, VAR has caused numerous talking points and it seems as though it’s not going to stop there because a lot has happened in the opening four Premier League matches.

Nonetheless, after the game, McGrath stated he was ‘not joking’ when he sent out these two Twitter message following Villa’s defeat at Selhurst Park.

It is even said that VAR couldn’t overturn the decision because by the time Lansbury had put the ball into the back of the net, the referee had blown his whistle.

But replays show that Friend perhaps didn’t even blow his whistle which makes the whole situation far more worse.

Either way, Dean Smith will be hoping the mood of his players doesn’t drop as they host West Ham United after the international break.
