Aston Villa recorded a valuable victory against Nottingham Forest in the Championship on Wednesday night.

Paul McGrath hailed John McGinn and Jack Grealish on Twitter after they helped Aston Villa to a 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Wednesday night.
Martin O’Neill’s side took the lead early in the first half through Jack Colback before John McGinn levelled the scores moments later with a finish at the near post.
The Scotland international, who replaced Glenn Whelan in the starting XI from that win against Birmingham City, doubled Villa’s lead with an exquisite long-range effort which was too good for opposition goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon
The promotion-chasers then made sure of the points in the second half when Kortney Hause scored from close range following a perfectly weighted set-piece delivery from Conor Hourihane.
After the match, McGrath sent this message on his personal Twitter account as the club legend was clearly delighted with the win for his former side.
Last month, after Villa’s home defeat to West Brom, many supporters, if not all, had given up on their promotion hopes for the season.
But since the return of star man Grealish, the Midlands outfit have beaten Derby, Birmingham and now Forest as their play-off hopes are well and truly back on.
They are two points outside of the top-six and they host fifth-placed Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon, with a win ensuring they close the gap on Tony Pulis’ men to just one point.
