Villa came from a goal down to get the better of Wednesday 3-1 away from home at the Hillsborough Stadium in the Championship.
Gary Hooper put the Owls in the lead after just seven minutes, but Villa restored parity midway through the first half through John McGinn.
Albert Adomah made it 2-1 to the Villans in the second minute of injury time, and Chelsea-owned striker Tammy Abraham found the net soon after.
Former Villa star McGrath was following the match, and he has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to the win for Dean Smith’s side.
