Anwar El Ghazi scored twice for Villa, while Newcastle United-owned striker Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez found the net for the Baggies.
Rodriguez’s goal – which was the equaliser – in the first minute of injury time was a controversial one, as the ball hit his arm before going in.
