Aston Villa smashed Rotherham United 3-0 on Saturday.

Aston Villa kick-started their season in ruthless fashion as Roberto Di Matteo’s side thrashed Rotherham United 3-0 at Villa Park on Saturday.
Fresh off the back of defeats by Sheffield Wednesday and a League Cup exit at Luton Town, Di Matteo’s men came into the contest with plenty of pressure.
But any anxiety among the Aston Villa fans and players was relieved on 21 minutes when Rudy Gestede opened the scoring, before doubling the advantage on the stroke of half-time to put the Villans 45 minutes away from a first victory.

Jack Grealish settled things with six minutes remaining as Aston Villa finally flash their promotion credentials. There’s a long, long way to go, sure, but supporters will feel so much better about the season now than they did before kick-off.
Two of those fans include club legends Paul McGrath and Ian Taylor; both of whom expressed their delight on Twitter afterwards.

Aston Villa now turn their attentions to Tuesday when Di Matteo and co host in-form Huddersfield, who picked up a sizeable scalp by winning 2-1 at Newcastle United on Saturday.
