Scott Hogan impressed for Aston Villa on Saturday night.

Aston Villa were held to a 1-1 draw by Hull City at Villa Park in their Championship opener this evening.

Gabby Agbonlahor gave Aston Villa the perfect start by firing the hosts ahead inside just seven minutes.

But the Tigers levelled up through Jarrod Bowen shortly after the hour mark as the Villans were denied three points on their return to competitive football.

Scott Hogan led the forward line well for Bruce’s side on a night which saw the 25-year-old – who set up Agbonlahor’s opener – post a tireless display up top.

And Aston Villa legend Paul McGrath has highlighted his performance with a complimentary post on Twitter.

The former Brentford hitman might be energetic, but Aston Villa will need him scoring goals this season – and plenty of them.

Hogan joined Bruce’s side in January but only managed one goal in 13 Championship outings, having scored 14 times for the Bees during the previous five months of the campaign.

And Villa will need that form this season.
