Glasgow Rangers and Aberdeen are not at the level of Celtic, says Dundee midfielder Paul McGowan.

Dundee midfielder Paul McGowan has told The Scottish Sun that Celtic are on a different level to Rangers and Aberdeen.

Celtic have the best squad in the Scottish Premiership at the moment and are firm favourites to win the league title this season.

Rangers, who got promoted from the Scottish Championship at the end of last season, and Aberdeen are expected to challenge the Bhoys for the league title.

Dundee midfielder McGowan, who started his professional club football career at Celtic, has played against all three teams this season.

The 28-year-old believes that Brendan Rodgers’s side are on a different level to Rangers and Aberdeen.

The former St Mirren midfielder, though, has pointed out that progressing in the Champions League or playing in the Europa League could have a negative effect on Celtic’s chances of winning the Scottish Premiership title this season.

“You can see that, under their new manager, they’re the best team in the country by far,” McGowan told The Scottish Sun about Celtic. “Nobody can argue with that. The pace they’ve got on the counter- attack leaves teams vulnerable.

“The only thing that can stop them is the Champions League or the Europa League if they get into that.

“Aberdeen are a great side, or even Rangers, but in my opinion Celtic are on a different level.

“You can tell the confidence is oozing through them. Brendan Rodgers has given their club such a lift.”

Celtic are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 19 points from seven matches.

Aberdeen are currently second in the standings with 15 points from eight games, while Rangers are in fifth place with 12 points.
