Scottie Scheffler was not happy at all after his opening round at the US Open on Thursday.

Scheffler may have been proud of himself for battling back to shoot 72 at Shinnecock Hills without his best stuff.

However, the world number one will be so disappointed with where his swing is at right now.

Scottie Scheffler lost 1.33 strokes to the field with his approach play on day one of the US Open.

Scheffler said his round of 72 at the US Open on Thursday was acceptable given the conditions.

However, his behavior on the driving range after his round proves that he is so frustrated right now.

Sky Sports commentator Paul McGinley is a huge fan of Scheffler.

The Irishman always showers the world number one with praise, and often labels him as the man with the best mentality in the game.

Even when Scheffler was seen demonstrably waving his hands in the direction of Randy Smith on the driving range at Shinnecock Hills on Thursday, McGinley still found a way to praise him.

During Sky Sports’ broadcast of the US Open, McGinley explained why Scheffler arguing with his coach was a sign of just how competitive he is.

There has definitely been that but that is fire in your belly, he said.

It’s not a bad thing as long as you harness it. It’s much better being that way rather than being detached and not really into it.

He really is for me the best competitor in the game. I know we have seen it maybe spill over here and there but overall his head is in the right place, that is for sure.

Paul McGinley wide of the mark with his take on Scottie Scheffler

I’m not sure I agree with McGinley’s last sentence there.

Scheffler’s head doesn’t seem to be in the right place whatsoever right now.

He has been losing his cool on the golf course, just like he did last week at The Memorial when he let loose at his caddie, Ted Scott, after finding the water with his tee shot on the par-three 16th hole.

The 29-year-old has also been incredibly snappy and short with reporters during his press conferences.

Scottie Scheffler is clearly nowhere near his best right now and he’s obviously not happy with his own performances.

Anyone saying any different is either deluded or they are sweeping the obvious issues that Scheffler has under the rug.
