Rabiot’s future at Paris Saint-Germain is in doubt, with Tottenam said to be sniffing.

Paul Mariner has told ESPN that he does not believe Tottenham Hotspur will land Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot, but wishes Arsenal were interested in the Frenchman as well.

The Daily Mirror claims Tottenham are considering a move for France international Rabiot when the transfer window re-opens in January, as his future at PSG is in big doubt.

The 23-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his contract at PSG, meaning he will become available on a pre-contract agreement to non-French clubs from January 1 – unless he signs a new deal.

Former Arsenal player Mariner believes Tottenham desperately need Rabiot but believes losing him will affect PSG manager Thomas Tuchel’s job security. He went on to say that he wishes Arsenal were keen on signing him.

“I love this guy, love him,” Mariner said. “I wish he was being linked to Arsenal, instead of Tottenham. Do Tottenham need him? Absolutely then need him. Should they tried to have got him earlier? Yes, they should.

“I cannot see PSG letting him go. They are focusing on the Champions League – that is how [Thomas] Tuchel is going to be judged. If he lets him go, that lessens their chances.”

Rabiot worked under current Arsenal manager Unai Emery during the latter’s spell in charge of the French champions, which could prove important if the former Sevilla boss was to consider rivalling Spurs.

Spurs desperately need a new central midfielder with Mousa Dembele in a similar position to Rabiot, as his contract in north London expires on June 30.
