The Arsenal star has been linked with a move away recently.
Paul Mariner has told ESPN that he does not believe Mesut Ozil will swap Arsenal for Manchester United next summer.
The Independent reported last week that the Arsenal playmaker is a target for United boss Jose Mourinho.
The 28-year-old only has roughly 19 months to run on his existing contract in North London and both him and the club seem to have reached an impasse in negotiations.
As long as such a short duration is on his deal then the Gunners could be vulnerable to losing him, but Mariner, who spent two years at Arsenal in the 1980s, does not believe that the World Cup winner will reunite with Mourinho, who previously managed Ozil at Real Madrid.
Asked by ESPN if he will go, Mariner said: “I hope not. Look, as long as Ozil holds out on his contract then we’ll have this [speculation].
“Who wouldn’t want this fantastic playmaker? He’s playing fantastic football, and I’m going to say miss [regarding move to Red Devils].”
The Germany international has been in scintillating form for Arsenal this season and manager Arsene Wenger, as well as the entire fanbase, would be devastated to lose him.
Wenger previously sold Robin van Persie to the Red Devils in a departure which incensed fans of the North London club.
