Paul Mariner backs John Terry for Aston Villa success

Former Chelsea star John Terry is reportedly wanted by Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.

Former Arsenal forward Paul Mariner has told ESPN FC that John Terry would be a good signing for Aston Villa.

Terry is a free agent at the moment, having left Premier League giants Chelsea at the end of last month when his contract ran out.

The 36-year-old is one of the best central defenders in Premier League history and is a Chelsea legend.

According to The Telegraph, the former England international centre-back will join Villa in the summer transfer window.

It has been reported that Terry has agreed to sign a 12-month contract with the Villans, who will be aiming to get promoted to the Premier League at the end of the 2017-18 campaign.

Villa endured a disappointing campaign in 2016-17, and Steve Bruce’s side will be aiming to finish in the top six of the Championship next season.

Former Arsenal forward Mariner has suggested that Terry would be a good signing for Villa.

“I think it is a fantastic move for Steve Bruce,” Mariner told ESPN FC regarding Terry and Villa.

“It’s exactly what he needs: the boss on the field. He will do the manager’s work on the field. I think this is a very, very good move for both parties. It’s a hit.”
