Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has been linked with West Ham United.

Paul Mariner has suggested to ESPN FC that West Ham United should not sign Jack Wilshere from Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

The Sun reported back in April that West Ham want to secure the services of Wilshere this summer.

According to Paddypower.com, the Hammers are favourites to sign the England international with odds of 6/4.

Former Arsenal forward Mariner has suggested that Slaven Bilic’s side should not sign the 25-year-old midfielder.

“If I am West Ham, I am not buying Jack Wilshere until I see him kicking a ball and running and playing first-team football,” Mariner told ESPN FC. “It’s too risky.”

Wilshere is a very talented midfielder who is brilliant on the ball, but the main problem with the Arsenal man is his fitness.

The Englishman has suffered with injury problems throughout his career, and he is currently recovering from a fractured fibula; he picked up the injury during his loan spell at Bournemouth last season.

Signing Wilshere on a permanent contract would not be wise of West Ham. The London club do have some good midfielders, and the 25-year-old would be a risk given his injury record.

However, if the Englishman became available on a loan deal, then the Hammers could make an approach.
