Wolverhampton Wanderers have appointed Paul Lambert as their new manager.
New Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Paul Lambert has told the club’s official website (subscription required) that it was ‘interesting’ for him when he got the phone call from the club.
Wolves chose to sack Walter Zenga last month, despite the Italian being in charge for less than three months having replaced Kenny Jackett over the summer.
Zenga had won just four Championship games in 14 attempts, and after caretaker Rob Edwards failed to win in either of his two games in charge, Wolves decided to appoint Paul Lambert as their new manager.

The Scot, 47, is best known for having spent almost three years in charge of Midlands rivals Aston Villa, winning just 29.6% of his games before losing his job in February 2015.
After leaving Blackburn Rovers in May – where he won 12 of his 33 games in charge – Lambert is back in the game, penning a deal to take charge of Wolves, with his contract length unspecified.

Lambert now has the international break to settle in at Molineux before taking on in-form Preston North End in his first game in charge, and he’s been speaking to the club’s official website having completed his move.
The ex-Celtic and Borussia Dortmund ace revealed that, when he first got the call to discuss a move to Molineux, he felt the proposition was ‘interesting’ due to the ‘fantastic fanbase’ that Wolves have.

Lambert added that he wants to give fans something to shout about after a difficult start to the season, and claims he always thought there was a great atmosphere at Molineux from his time in charge of Norwich City and Blackburn.
“When I got the call it was interesting, because I think the big thing that helps the football club is the fans,” said Lambert. “There’s a fantastic fanbase, and I think that if you have that, you have got a chance. Even when I came here with Norwich and Blackburn, it was always a great atmosphere here. I think we, as a team, have got to get the fans going, we’ve got to give them something back. I think if you do that, given the size of the club, it’s got a real chance,” he added.
