Newcastle United are currently top of the Championship, while Sunderland are bottom of the Premier League.

Paul Lambert has told Sky Sports News, which was broadcast on 28th October, that it is difficult to choose between Newcastle United’s and Sunderland’s squads.
Newcastle may be playing in the Championship, but Lambert feels that the teams are comparable.
“It’s a difficult question,” he said, when asked Newcastle have a stronger squad than Sunderland. “They have more momentum at the minute. But you’re talking about a manager who knows what he’s doing.

“He’s gone in there and galvanised them. If you’re getting 50,000 then it’s a big help.”
Newcastle and Sunderland have had very contrasting starts to the season.
Newcastle have won their last six matches in all competitions, and they sit at the top of the Championship table.

The Magpies look to be the stand out team in the second tier, and they have also progressed to the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.
Sunderland, meanwhile, have badly struggled under David Moyes’ stewardship.
The Black Cats are still looking for their first Premier League victory, and they have already slipped five points adrift of safety.
