Wolverhampton Wanderers were beaten 1-0 by Newcastle United at Molineux at the weekend.
Paul Lambert has defended Wolverhampton Wanderers fans from Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez’s criticism with his comments in the Express and Star.
Benitez was frustrated with the treatment that the Molineux crowd gave to Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.
The Spanish boss even claimed that the FA should start a review against Wolves fans for chants they sung during Saturday’s clash between the two sides.
However, Lambert insists he heard nothing untoward during the fixture – and he insists that the atmosphere created by Wolves fans was impressive.
“Does the FA need to look into what the Wolves fans sang? Not at all. There’s nothing in that whatsoever,” Lambert said.

“I won’t let anybody criticise our support.
“I thought the Wolves fans were brilliant. I never heard any derogatory songs or racism songs or anything.
“I never heard a thing. But I’ll sit here and defend the Wolves fans because I didn’t hear anything – and that’s me being totally honest.”
Wolves were beaten 1-0 by Newcastle when they met on Saturday evening, in what was a close encounter.
Wolves had their chances during the contest, but a scrappy goal from Aleksandar Mitrovic proved to be the difference between the two sides.
Newcastle’s victory has strengthened their position at the top of the Championship table, while Wolves can still feel confident that they have made progress under Lambert’s stewardship.
