Aston Villa are keen on a move for Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland.
The Sun report Villa hope a £20 million fee will be enough to land him.
This could end up being a bargain.
Wolves were reportedly interested in Butland last May, with a price of £35 million floated.
Former Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert told Talksport that he felt even this was not enough for Butland.
He said: “Is that for one glove? With the way the modern market is, I think you might get one glove for that!
“When it becomes a little bit probably more realistic with the modern-day transfer fees then wait and see.
“I obviously know people at Wolves and get on well with those guys. But I think that would probably get you Jack’s right hand.”
Fortunately for Villa, Lambert is not in charge at Stoke.
The £20 million fee is a more realistic valuation, coming after the goalkeeper spent a year in the Championship and no team decided to pay Stoke’s excessive asking price for him.
Villa’s potential offer would provide Stoke with good money from which to reinvest in their team, and it may be best to do what’s right by Butland, and give him the chance to play in the Premier League.
Once there, his value is only likely to increase. Villa would be paying a lot, but also buying low.
