Celtic face German giants Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Paul Lambert has told BBC Sport that Celtic must remain wary against four of Bayern Munich’s stars ahead of the Hoops’ Champions League clash on Tuesday night.

The Hoops must get a result against Jupp Heynckes’ side if they are to stand any chance of progressing into the knockout stages of the Champions League, as they sit in third in Group B with three points.

Former Celtic ace Lambert chose to highlight Bayern’s all-star defence instead of their glittering attack, claiming that the Bundesliga champions have one of the best defences he has seen in Joshua Kimmich, Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels and David Alaba.

Lambert, who played in the Champions League with Celtic and Borussia Dortmund, also claimed that Bayern’s injury list consisting of Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller would not affect the uphill challenge facing Celtic.

“They are big players but I’m not so sure they will be missed,” he said. “Bayern are still a top, top side and have players who will thrive on the atmosphere.

“They have one of the best back fours that I’ve seen in a long time. Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels are excellent in their build up play, Joshua Kimmich is a terrific young right-back and David Alaba is right on top of his game.”

Bayern comfortably swept aside Celtic in the reverse fixture just under a fortnight ago, as goals from Muller, Kimmich and Hummels saw the Bhoys suffer a helpless 3-0 defeat.

Three points would almost certainly see Celtic qualify for Europa League football after Christmas, as third place in the Champions League groups allows sides to enter the round of 32 stage.

Manager Brendan Rodgers will be without wing wizard Patrick Roberts who is struggling with a hamstring injury, while defensive duo Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko remain sidelined.
