Wolverhampton Wanderers have been playing better recently, without getting their just rewards.
Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Paul Lambert
Wolves boss Paul Lambert spoke to the Express & Star about the incredible support he and his players have had from the club’s fans, especially during their 2-0 home defeat to Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday, and offered his gratitude for the manner in which they have stuck by his team.
The Black Country outfit have improved over the past few months without question, although their impressive displays have not translated into points, and Lambert’s men are still firmly entrenched in a relegation battle, with just five points separating them and 22nd placed Wigan Athletic.
But there are still positive vibes emanating from The Molineux, after their performance against the Premier League leaders gave everybody involved with Wolves a lot to be upbeat about.
And Lambert delivered a message to the club’s fans, when speaking to the Express & Star, highlighting how much he appreciates the backing he has received from the Molineux faithful since taking over at Wolves in November:
“It was an extraordinary moment. So it’s a big thanks from me for the support since I’ve been here – Saturday probably took it to another level. The applause was incredible. For me, just a big thank you for the support. There’s a special bond here. I can’t speak highly enough of everybody. There are so many good things that can happen here. Hopefully it goes the way everyone wants it to. When you hear that noise you think that can happen every week if we get in the Premier League. If you can replicate that…dear oh dear, that’s a powerful weapon to have.”

Lambert’s men have lost three consecutive league games, and now face a vital home match against Birmingham City on Friday night, and anything other than a win could see them dragged into even deeper trouble.
But after Saturday’s display against the Blues, there is no reason why they cannot mount a sustained run of victories that would push them up into mid-table and beyond.
