Wolverhampton Wanderers were beaten 2-0 by Sheffield Wednesday in their most recent fixture

Paul Lambert has told the Express and Star that he totally understands Wolverhampton Wanderers fans who booed during their defeat against Sheffield Wednesday.

Lambert was taking charge of his first match at Molineux, but they atmosphere around the ground was not particularly forgiving.

Wednesday raced into a 2-0 lead in the first half, and the discontent around Wolves home ground was audible.

Boos rang out around Molineux, but the reaction was not enough to spark Lambert’s new side into life.

Wolves were slightly better in the second half, but they rarely threatened to take the three points away from Wednesday.

And Lambert said: “I understand the boos. We were up against a good side – we want to be as good as that and we’ve got a lot of work to do.”

Wolves’ fans frustrations stem from an awful run of form, which has seen the Midlands side lose their last four matches at Molineux.

Wolves are now just above the relegation zone on goal difference, and they are having to look nervously over their shoulder.

Lambert’s new side are next in action on Thursday evening, when they take on Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.
