Helder Costa was kept on the substitutes’ bench as Wolverhampton Wanderers drew with Ipswich Town yesterday.
Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Paul Lambert has told the club’s official website that his side cannot continue to rely on Helder Costa.
Costa was only brought to Wolves last summer, but he has already taken on a great deal of responsibility at Molineux.
The 23-year-old impressed so much over the initial months of the season, while on loan, that Wolves made him their record signing during the January transfer window.
And Costa has continued to be their main creative influence throughout the campaign.
The Portuguese winger has scored 10 goals in 36 appearances for Wolves in all competitions, and has been a mainstay in their side.
However, Costa was dropped to the bench for Wolves’ match against Ipswich Town at Portman Road last night.
And Lambert has admitted that Costa is starting to get tired from the workload he has been given at the Midlands club.
“We can’t keep relying on Helder Costa,” Lambert admitted. ”It’s unfair on him. I had a chat with him yesterday, he was tired after a large number of games.
“I knew it was going to be a battle here first and foremost. He’s a young lad as well and it heaps a lot of pressure on him to keep playing.
“We have to spread the responsibility around the team.
“With the type of game I thought it was going to be, I thought I’d bring him on for the last 15 minutes when the game was a bit more open.”
Costa did come on as a late substitute for Wolves, but he was unable to break the deadlock at Portman Road.
Wolves and Ipswich ended up drawing the game 0-0, with the result not doing either side many favours.
