Former Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers boss Paul Lambert has spoken about his potential interest in the managerial vacancy at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolves sacked Walter Zenga earlier this week with the club on run of poor form in the Championship.

Plenty of names have been linked with the job recently with Lambert highlighted as a potential outside bet to get the role.

He was speaking on Sky Sports News HQ today (28/10/16) when he suggested he would be interested but that he would need to be asked first:

“As am I and everyone else. An out of work manager (you) are on the lookout for anything. First and foremost, you’ve got to be asked to go back into football and at the minute I’m enjoying what I’m doing and if something comes up worthwhile and I think it’s a good challenge then I’ll look at it.”

Lambert also discussed Zenga’s sacking. He spoke about the difficulties managers have at present in the Football League to impress – suggesting Zenga’s run as Wolves manager was not as bad as suggested:

“You don’t get time as a manager anymore and it’s getting less and less. I think it’s getting more difficult if you don’t get results.

“Four out of five is not a disaster by any stretch of the imagination, it’s a long way to go in the Championship.

“But the owners have decided to make the change. Football management, it’s a tough game.”

Lambert has been out of work since leaving Blackburn Rovers in May. He is a successful manager in the Championship and there is no doubt Wolves would have to consider his appointment.

However, the likes of Paul Ince, Dougie Freedman, Nigel Pearson and caretaker boss Rob Edwards are all considered more likely candidates for the role.

Wolves are currently 18th in the Championship and without a win in five games.
