West Ham United will be looking to secure a top ten finish as the Premier League season is coming to a close.

Paul Ince has bizarrely claimed that West Ham United would have performed ‘a lot better’ this season had they laid out their new claret & blue carpet a lot earlier.

Earlier this week, the Hammers installed a new claret and blue carpet around their London Stadium pitch [Football.London] as they recorded a 2-2 draw at home to Leicester on Saturday.

Michail Antonio was one of the goalscorers on the day and he celebrated his header by stroking the new carpet during his celebrations.

Speaking to Final Score on BBC One (20/04/2019 at 5:15 pm), Ince reacted to Antonio’s celebration and the installation of their new carpet.

“It was absolutely fantastic [Antonio’s celebration],” Ince told Final Score. “The club have got a new claret & blue carpet around the pitch. It was a fantastic header [for his goal] and he’s come right across Chilwell and put in the right-hand corner.

“His celebration was just brilliant, it really, really was. He just got down and lied on the carpet like he was stroking his cat. If they had that carpet out at the start of the season they might have done a lot better than they have done because they have been so in and out this year, West Ham considering the players they have brought in.”

Manuel Pellegrini of West Ham United gesticulates during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Leicester City at London Stadium on April 20, 2019 in London, United Kingdom.

There is no doubt that Manuel Pellegrini’s side have produced a number of indifferent performances this season and they will be looking to improve on that next term.

A top seven finish seems out of reach for West Ham, but if they have a positive end to the season then they will more than likely secure a top 10 finish.

For their next fixture, Pellegrini’s side will take on Champions League semi-finalists Tottenham Hotspur at their brand new stadium.
