Miguel Almiron made his home debut for Newcastle United during their win against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
BBC pundit Paul Ince has claimed that Miguel Almiron was ‘missing’ a goal during his ‘outstanding’ home debut for Newcastle as they recorded a 2-0 win against Huddersfield Town.
The 25-year-old made his debut for the club 12 days ago when he came on as a second-half substitute against Wolves before making his St James’ Park bow on Saturday.
Almiron didn’t disappoint his supporters as he was a constant threat in the attacking third by showcasing his raw pace, technical and passing ability.
Speaking to Match of the Day on BBC One (23/02/2019), former Manchester United midfielder Ince analysed his performance and explained what he did right on the day.
“Considering it was his debut, you could always be nervous going into a big, massive stadium like Newcastle,” Ince told MOTD. “He looked like they had him there all his life.
“He kind of did everything you want on a debut – Everything he did in the game today kind of came off. The only thing that was probably missing was a goal. He can get himself in the box.
“It’s not just that, he has got a trick. He is a wonderful player. Technically he is very, very gifted – He was outstanding and one for the future.”
The performance by Almiron would have lifted the spirits of Newcastle supporters who now know that they have a quality player on their hands.
The Magpies are out of both domestic competitions, but they will still be looking to move further away from the drop zone as possible and finish their Premier League season on a high.
At this moment in time, they are four points ahead of 18th-placed Southampton and six points behind 10th-placed Bournemouth.
It may be a tough ask, but Newcastle could potentially secure another top 10 finish if they can continue to pick up points and build on the momentum from their recent win and Almiron’s home debut.
