Paul Ince told Optus Sport on Premier League Productions that it’s ‘not really worked out’ for Rhian Brewster at Sheffield United following his big-money departure from Liverpool last summer.

The 21-year-old Liverpool academy product perhaps sums up the abject season Sheffield United have had in the fact that he is yet to score for his new club.

In the summer, it was a surprise to many when the Blades paid a club-record £24 million (BBC Sport) for his services, even though he hadn’t scored in the top-flight.

Well, it was an almighty risk from Sheffield United last summer and it has now proven to be an utter disaster.

“When you are a team like Sheffield United, who aren’t getting enough chances,” said Ince. “And then when they get the (few) chances then you have to take them.

“They purchased Brewster for £24 million, it’s not really worked out. Has it? So, that’s been a disappointment, that’s for sure.”

Sheffield United have to take the positives from Brewster’s struggles because if they don’t then they might as well flush all that money down the drain.

They are heading back down to the Championship, and whilst Brewster struggled in England’s top-flight, he did enjoy a fruitful spell at Swansea last season.

More of that will be needed if the Blades don’t plan to pull the plug on the Englishman when the transfer window re-opens.
