Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge started for Liverpool as they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Paul Ince has claimed that Jurgen Klopp played Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge during Liverpool’s FA Cup defeat to Wolves because he is looking to sell them.
The Merseyside club suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Midlands outfit, with Origi netting the only goal for his side as they produced a lacklustre display.
Fellow pundit, Alan Shearer responded to Ince’s comments in a brutal fashion by saying that ‘no-one will buy them’ after their poor showing at Molineux
During the halftime break, when the Reds were 1-0 down, Ince and Shearer were very critical at the attacking duo’s lack of movement as the away side failed to test opposition goalkeeper John Ruddy.
Former Premier League midfielder Ince made a suggestion as to why Klopp opted to start them as Shearer responded in typical fashion.
“I feel the two of them [Sturridge and Origi], Klopp’s trying to put them in the shop window,” Ince told BBC One’s coverage of the game on 07/01/2019 at 8:40 pm. “He’s played them today to put them in the shop window.”
“Judging by that performance no-one will buy them,” Shearer responded.
Liverpool’s usual front three, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah were named on the bench – the latter two came onto the field of play with 20 minutes left on the clock as Klopp’s side tried to turn the result.
Nonetheless, it was the attacking duo of Sturridge and Origi that were given the nod to start, with the likes of James Milner, Xherdan Shaqiri and Nabi Keita also taking to the field.
But the Reds only managed two efforts on goal as they will now turn their attention to the Premier League and the Champions League.
