Leeds United head coach Paul Heckingbottom seems desperate to win against Aston Villa at Villa Park in the Championship on Friday.

Paul Heckingbottom, Manager of Leeds United looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Fulham and Leeds United at Craven Cottage on April 3, 2018 in London, England.

Leeds United head coach Paul Heckingbottom has suggested to Leeds Live that he wants to win against Aston Villa at any cost.

Heckingbottom made the comments following Leeds’s 3-1 defeat to Preston North End away from home at Deepdale in the Championship on Tuesday evening.

The Whites’ defeat saw their poor run of form continue, with the team having won just two of their last 19 matches.

Next up for Leeds is a Championship game against Villa away from home at Villa Park on Friday evening, and Heckingbottom is desperate for a win.

Paul Heckingbottom manager of Barnsley looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Barnsley and Leeds United at Oakwell Stadium on November 25, 2017 in Barnsley, England.

Heckingbottom told Leeds Live: “Preston are a team that play like that, rely on that, cause problems with that.

“And we wanted to take that away from them and more than match them at it. And it thought we did. But I’m ready for playing garbage at Villa and winning 1-0. I’m not bothered.”

Desperation and pressure

Heckingbottom’s comments about winning against Villa by playing garbage football is an indication that he is desperate and under pressure.

When the 40-year-old was appointed the Leeds head coach in February 2018, they were still in the running for the playoffs, but now there is a very good chance that they will not even finish in the top half of the table.

Heckingbottom is a good manager, but there is no running away from the fact that under him the team have not done well under him.
