Leeds United lost 3-1 at Preston North End on Tuesday night.

Paul Heckingbottom, Manager of Leeds United looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Fulham and Leeds United at Craven Cottage on April 3, 2018 in London, England.

Leeds United boss Paul Heckingbottom has told Leeds Live that he didn’t feel Samu Saiz and Pierre-Michel Lasogga could handle another game as they were left out against Preston North End.

The Whites travelled to Deepdale on Tuesday night in search of just a third win of 2018, and were on course for that when Kemar Roofe scored from close range after Kalvin Phillips drove the ball across goal.

However, Leeds fell apart after the break, as Vurnon Anita fouled Billy Bodin, allowing Paul Gallagher to score from the penalty spot, before Sean Maguire headed home Gallagher’s cross from close range.

Preston secured all three points late on as Callum Robinson’s cross was headed home by Alan Browne to make it 3-1, handing Paul Heckingbottom another defeat as Leeds boss.

Heckingbottom picked a Leeds side which confused many, as both Caleb Ekuban and Jay-Roy Grot were handed starts, whilst Samu Saiz and Pierre-Michel Lasogga were both dropped to the bench.

Saiz played 180 minutes across the previous two games against Fulham and Sunderland, whilst Lasogga was only a substitute at Fulham and played 79 minutes against Sunderland on Saturday.

Fans were left confused by their absences, but manager Heckingbottom has told Leeds Live that so many games in a short space of time was a concern, with both players ‘tight’ heading into Tuesday’s game – and their absences were certainly felt as Leeds slipped to another defeat.
