Leeds United are currently sat in 13th place in the Championship table.

Paul Heckingbottom has told BBC Radio Leeds that Andrea Radrizzani has made it clear to him that Leeds United are going to need to streamline their squad this season.

Radrizzani has been harsh with his criticism of Leeds’ players in recent times, with the Whites owner suggesting that he saw a lack of passion in a match against Middlesbrough.

And Heckingbottom has claim that he wants to ensure that next season Leeds only have a squad which are really driven.

The Whites boss said: “Andrea has made it really clear, and it’s something we’ve spoken about and I believe in myself. If we are going to out compete teams which are spending more and paying more, we’re going to have to do things better.

“We are going to have to have a tight, hungry group who are really driven and that’s what we’re going to try and do.”

Leeds are unlikely to have the biggest budget in terms of wages or spending money in the summer, so they will have to be smart with their signings.

The Whites have had a mixed track record with their additions since Radrizzani came in.

Leeds have brought in a whole host of new faces, but while Samu Saiz has been a major success, the likes of Jay Roy Grot and Vurnon Anita have flopped.

Leeds’ chances of promotion are all but over this term, but Heckingbottom will now use the remaining fixtures to assess the quality of his current options.

Leeds are next in action tomorrow, when they take on Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road.
