Pearce has played three times for Leeds United this season.
Leeds United have yet to offer a new contract to Tom Pearce, despite the left-back’s existing deal being due to expire this summer, according to manager Paul Heckingbottom.
Pearce has recently broken into Leeds’ starting XI – having impressed for the Under-23s earlier in the campaign – and scored his first senior goal in Saturday’s 1-0 win against Barnsley.
But Leeds face losing the 20-year-old on a Bosman free transfer unless they act fast – something Heckingbottom has revealed they intend to do.
Asked about Pearce’s future at a press conference broadcast via Leeds’ official Twitter page on Thursday, the 40-year-old said: “Nothing to report on that, other than obviously he’s going to be offered a new contract.
“Nothing’s been signed yet.”
After Pablo Hernandez’s new deal earlier in the day, Pearce is the only senior Leeds player out of contract this summer, a situation which Heckingbottom has again admitted could prove problematic when it comes to overhauling the squad he inherited at Elland Road in February.
And his pool of players is set to expand when Marcus Antonsson, Mateusz Klich, Luke Murphy, Lewie Coyle and Yosuke Ideguchi return from their loan spells.
On whether decisions have been made about any of those, Heckingbottom said: “It’s difficult, when you look at the players here to get around all of them.
“We’ve made sure we’ve been in contact with all of them and spoken to them, which they appreciated, but obviously our focus has been on these players that we’ve had in our building.
“So yeah, decisions are on hold, we’ll have to look at them and see, chat with them and see what they’re thinking and take it from there.”
