Leeds United head coach Paul Heckingbottom has praised the character of Paudie O’Connor to Leeds Live.

O’Connor has broken into the Leeds first team this season and has played well whenever he has been given the chance.

The 20-year-old left-back joined the West Yorkshire outfit in March 2017 after leaving Limerick when his contract ran out, as reported by The Express.

Leeds head coach Heckingbottom has praised the character of the youngster.

Heckingbottom told Leeds Live about O’Connor: “He’s done well, yeah. I’ve been really pleased.

“So we had him in with us for a couple of weeks before he got his chance because we knew we were low on numbers there and just in case and as it turned out it was a good job really because we had to throw him in. He felt more comfortable with the group.

“He’s a person who probably one of his strength is his character and you never really know what people are going to do till you put them in and he’s not been fazed which is the important thing. He’s not been fazed.”

Quality footballer

O’Connor is still young and developing, but his performances and displays for Leeds so far this season have been very encouraging.

The youngster works hard at the back and makes important challenges, and the 20-year-old is not bad going forward either.

Heckingbottom’s comments about O’Connor suggest just how highly he rates the young Leeds defender, who clearly has a bright future at Elland Road.

Leeds have endured yet another disappointing season in the Championship and could end up in the bottom half of the table.
