Paul Heckingbottom comments on Leeds United’s top six chances

Paul Heckingbottom feels Leeds United can still finish within the top six.

New Leeds United boss Heckingbottom started his tenure at his new club with a frustrating 2-1 defeat against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday.

With this result, Leeds have now gone through seven games without a win in the Championship. They find themselves in 11^th position, and with games running out, they have an uphill task of breaking into the top six.

However, Heckingbottom feels that all is not over yet for Leeds, and that they can recover and mount a late challenge for play-off places.

After the match, he admitted that top six is still the target for Leeds. He adds that Leeds will face a lot of teams above them from now till the end of the season, so if they can keep the momentum going, the table could look different.

“Yeah it’s one of those things where as games run out you get further and further away,” said Heckingbottom, as quoted by Leeds Live. That’s it, that’s fact.

“But the beauty is we’re playing lots of teams above us in this run of games now so when we’re winning we’re taking the points off the other teams who we’re trying to catch so yeah that’s the beauty of this run, yeah.

“People have been saying to me all the time how tough it is and the run of games we’ve got coming ahead but you can flip that just as easily and look at it differently.

“If you manage to win those games and takes the points off them then you are reeling them in.”

Heckingbottom has a point here. A run of five-six wins in a row could still keep them in contention for the play-offs, but at this moment the team looks bereft of confidence.
