Leeds United boss says that the fans have a massive role to play ahead of Bristol City clash.
It’s now or never for Leeds United. With the Yorkshire club reeling at 11th in the Championship table, and not many games left to play, they have to start winning games in order to mount a late challenge for the top six places.
Leeds are yet to win a game in 2018, and have not won their last seven Championship games, losing five in those.
They are up against Bristol City at Elland Road on Sunday, and new boss Paul Heckingbottom has said that he is “looking forward” to it.
Heckingbottom feels that a win is necessary to maintain realistic hopes of getting into the top six, but at the same time says that it is not a must-win game.
The new boss is expecting a warm reception from the home crowd, and says that a good Elland Road atmosphere can make a huge difference for the side.
He adds that the team can work on tactics and strategies, but the fans also have got a “massive responsibility” and can help the team going forward.
“Yeah, everything. Honestly, everything. You think back to when you play there, the place is bouncing,” said Heckingbottom, as quoted by Leeds Live, when asked how much difference can a good Elland Road atmosphere make.
“Silly little things like getting information across to a team-mate it effects it. Building up momentum in a game, the fans have got a massive part to play in that. We spoke about a couple of tactical things to build momentum but the fans have got a massive responsibility and can help to no end to that. So it’ll be nice if we can get the fans up and going through the player’s performance, everyone can share in a positive result, everyone’s played a part.”
