Paul Elliott has told BBC Sport that he prefers the game between Celtic and Rangers to that between Manchester United and Manchester City.

Celtic will take on Old Firm rivals Rangers at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon.

Also on Saturday afternoon, United will lock horns with City in the Manchester derby at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Former Celtic defender Elliott, who is 52 years of age and also played for Aston Villa and Chelsea, has said that he would rather be at Celtic Park than at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

“Manchester’s a great game, great city, great managers, great players,” Elliott told BBC Sport when asked if he would rather attend the Old Firm game or the match between between United and City. ”But I’d love to be among the Celtic supporters in that intensity.”

The match between Celtic and Rangers is one of the biggest on the planet.

The Old Firm derby is well-known across the world, and the passion is unrivalled.

Perhaps the Manchester derby lacks that intensity, but it cannot be denied that the players who will feature at Old Trafford this weekend will be much better than those who will take to the pitch at Celtic Park.

The quality of the football in the Manchester derby will be much higher than that in the Old Firm game.
