Newcastle United are currently top of the Championship.
Speaking to the Chronicle, Newcastle United defender Paul Dummett has warned they cannot afford to take their foot off the gas at any point this season.
After a shaky start to life in the Championship, the Magpies have established themselves in the division and currently sit three points clear at the top of the table.
They are currently in the midst of a seven-game winning run; eight in all competitions including the EFL Cup win over Preston North End.
Dummett has been a big part of the team so far, playing in all but one of their league games to date.

And he has warned they cannot afford to put their feet up at any stage, something he says the players already know.
“We can’t put our feet up. The players have said that and the manager.
Every week we come in and start afresh,” he told the Chronicle.
“We can never take our foot off the gas and think it’s easy. We have got the best team on paper but if you don’t work hard you can lose games.”
“At the moment we are working hard as a team, creating chances and scoring goals. We must keep that going.”

It will be interesting to see if Newcastle can maintain their form for the remainder of the season.
As Dummett says they have arguably the best squad in the division this season but they have already learned on several occasions that that is not enough to secure wins.
Rafa Benitez has already managed his squad well to avoid overconfidence and it will be a test of his skills to ensure it stays that way for the remainder of the campaign.
