Paul Dummett celebrates after scoring the third goal for Newcastle
Newcastle United left-back Paul Dummett has told the Chronicle that Achraf Lazaar is just the latest player he will have to fight off for the left back spot.
The Geordie left back has been a regular for the Magpies over the last few seasons after breaking through in 2012.
His time in the first team has seen him fight off fierce competition for the position, with the club even electing to sell Davide Santon and keep him last season.

This year the rival for his role is summer signing Lazaar and Dummett says he is hoping to win the battle and maintain the healthy competition.
“He [Benitez] told me that he wanted to bring in another left-back,” he told the Chronicle.
“He’s done that now, so I have another one to fight off. Hopefully, I can do that and keep up the healthy competition.”

At this moment in time, it appears Dummett is first choice given he has started five of their six games in the Championship so far.
They have done well in that time, winning their last four games and currently sitting second in the table.
Rafa Benitez has already shown he is not afraid to rotate his squad, though, and Dummett will have to maintain his form to ensure he remains ahead of the competition.
