The young Leeds United pair could act as back-up in key positions but they need an impressive pre-season.

Back in January 2016, Leeds United signed footballing twins Jack and Paul McKay from Doncaster Rovers for an undisclosed fee. However the pair have had to wait patiently for their first-team chances, instead turning out regularly for the Whites’ under-23s.

Centre-back Paul and striker Jack are now 20, and given Leeds’ current squad depth this summer could be vital for them.

After all, with talented prospect Jack Vann released and former loanee Kyle Bartley heading back to Swansea City, whoever replaces Garry Monk as Leeds manager has limited options when it comes to the heart of their defence.

The new boss is likely to rectify that in the close season, however Paul McKay could be the most likely Leeds youngster to step up having already made his debut – albeit in the FA Cup defeat to Sutton United back in February – and some fine showings in the upcoming friendlies could get the boss’s attention.

Similarly Leeds are somewhat limited when it comes to goal-scoring options. Eoghan Stokes and Mallik Wilks are available, and the latter is particularly highly rated, but Jack McKay had already featured four times for Doncaster’s first-team prior to his exit and it could be a straight battle between him and teenager Wilks for chances next season.

Given the fact that Leeds have released some of those players the McKay’s have played with this season, they will know this summer and the proceeding season could be a defining one for their Leeds careers.

It is time they justified the club’s initial outlay, with roles as able deputies within their grasp if they work hard enough.
