O’Connor had been on trial with Leeds United.
Leeds’ Elland Road ground
Paudie O’Connor has taken to Twitter after Limerick finally confirmed the centre-back’s move to Leeds United.
O’Connor had been on trial with the Whites, featuring in Jason Blunt’s Under-23 squads.
And it appears the Championship side liked what they saw, handing the Irishman a full-time contract which the Limerick Leader reported will run until 2019.
O’Connor’s former club tweeted on Thursday: “After 3 years with Limerick FC, Paudie O’Connor has signed for Leeds United following a short trial. We at LFC wish Paudie every success!”
And O’Connor followed it up with a message of his own, posting: “Delighted to sign with @LUFC. Thank you to everyone for the messages and well wishes. Excited to get going with the new adventure”
O’Connor paid his first visit to Elland Road on Saturday, as Leeds were held to a 0-0 draw by Queens Park Rangers.
Nevertheless, the 19-year-old was clearly impressed by the matchday experience, describing it as “unreal” and a “quality” atmosphere.
According to the Irish Sun, O’Connor, who made 39 appearances for Limerick, had also spent time with Crystal Palace and Leicester City before linking up with Leeds.
Leeds boss Garry Monk
Garry Monk’s side are currently fourth in the Championship and could yet replace the pair in next season’s top flight.
