Nuno’s Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly miss out on Villarreal defender Pau Torres.
What’s the story?
The Times reported at 1pm yesterday that Tottenham are interested in signing Torres from Villarreal in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old Spain international’s release clause is £55.4 million, but Tottenham are hoping that Villarreal, now managed by former Arsenal boss Unai Emery, will accept a lower fee.
The report claimed that Spurs are ready to make a move for the Spain international central defender.
All good, right?
Wrong.
There has now been a twist.
In a report published in The Times at 12:01am today (August 14, 2021), it has been reported that Torres is ‘having serious reservations about leaving Villarreal’.
The Yellow Submarine will play in the Champions League this season, while Spurs will not even be in the Europa League.
It seems that the story has taken a twist in just 11 hours.

Could Tottenham Hotspur miss out?
Now, if Torres does not want to move to Tottenham, then a transfer is unlikely to happen.
Villarreal simply cannot force the 24-year-old to leave, and Spurs are unlikely to sign a player who does not want to come.
What could happen now is Tottenham could try to convince the defender – described as “an amazing player” by Emery – in Football.London in January 2021 – to move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
