Pau Lopez has been speaking to Mundo Deportivo about his loan stint at Tottenham Hotspur; a decision that still rankles with some fans of his parent club Espanyol.

The Spanish goalkeeper arrived at White Hart Lane to act as cover for Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm last time out, but at the end of the campaign Lopez had failed to make a single appearance for Tottenham’s first-team, having to make do with some under-23 outings.

Despite that disappointment, the 22-year-old has no regrets, even after Tottenham opted not to sign the ‘keeper permanently, thus ensuring he needed to win back the Espanyol fans he had previously angered with his decision to leave.

“I did not let anyone down,” Lopez told Mundo Deportivo. “When it comes to making decisions, you think about what will be best for me and my family.

“I would not have had many minutes if I stayed (at Espanyol) and it was a good experience. I do not regret it and I’m happy.”

Citing the influence of Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino and Spurs’ goalkeeping coach Toni Jimenez, it is clear the young stopper enjoyed his spell in North London.

But his job is now to maintain his form for Espanyol and sign a new contract at a club he looked to have played his last match for last season.

Instead Tottenham opted to wave him goodbye before signing Paulo Gazzaniga from Southampton; the new man tasked with beating two other stoppers to a spot between the posts.
