Pau Lopez is grateful to Tottenham Hotspur for the chance last season.

Pau Lopez has told AS that he is grateful to Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino following his loan spell at White Hart Lane last season.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper joined Spurs on a season-long loan but did not make a single appearance, with Michel Vorm and Hugo Lloris ahead of him in the pecking order.

Despite this, it was reported that Tottenham would take up the option to sign him permanently but, according to Sport, the Lilywhites pulled out of a £2 million deal.

Nevertheless, Lopez, now back at Espanyol, revealed to AS that he is happy to have experienced life in North London, even if it did not amount of much playing time.

“I was out of my comfort zone and that helps you grow on a personal level. You get to know a new league and a new way of training,” he told AS.

“I was in a team with incredible players and a manager who I’m very grateful towards for the experience they were able to give me.”

Tottenham have not signed a replacement for Lopez but, given how Vorm, they probably should.

Lloris’s first-team spot is under no immediate threat, but Spurs are back in the Champions League next season and they will, at times, need a quality back-up for the Frenchman.
