Sampdoria’s Patrik Schick has hit the headlines again with a stunning goal against Crotone.
Sampdoria’s Patrik Schick
Now one of the hottest prospects in Europe, Sampdoria’s Patrik Schick has enjoyed a meteoric rise to stardom over the course of this season.
The Czech Republic international only joined Sampdoria from Sparta Prague last summer, having enjoyed a prolific loan spell with Bohemians 1905, scoring eight goals in 28 games.
Schick had only scored once in ten games for Sparta Prague, so his move to Italy was seen as something of a project for Sampdoria – and few could have predicted him to make such a huge impact this season.
Schick has racked up ten goals in 27 Serie A appearances this term, with his finest goal yet coming in last Sunday’s 2-1 home defeat to Crotone.

Collecting Fabio Quagliarella’s pass 30 yards from goal, Schick had his back to goal but swiftly flicked the ball over Gianmarco Ferrari, raced onto the ball and calmly slotted past the goalkeeper.
Schick’s goal was reminiscent of Dennis Bergkamp’s famous strike for Arsenal against Newcastle 15 years ago, and summed up just why he is attracting strong Premier League interest.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino shake hands
Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Schick is currently valued at €25m (£21m), the current fee in his release clause – though Sampdoria are working to remove that clause with new contract negotiations.
With Arsenal and Tottenham allegedly keen, the two North London rivals – who meet on Sunday afternoon – will be paying close attention to Schick’s exploits in Italy, and his Bergkamp-esque wondergoal is just another sign that Schick is set for stardom.
