Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly keen on signing the 21-year-old this summer.

Juventus confirmed today that they have completed the signing of Sampdoria striker Patrik Schick for €25 million (£22 million), via their official Twitter account.
The Italian giants reportedly activated the Czech Republic international’s release clause with the Blucerchiati, and that could turn out to look like a serious bargain if he goes on to realise his incredible potential.
Spurs were thought to be closely monitoring the 21-year-old, according to the Sun, after being impressed with his performances in Serie A last season, after he scored 11 goals in 32 league outings, with 18 of those appearances coming from the substitutes bench.
And Tottenham could come to regret missing out on the 6ft 1in hitman.
Whilst there have been no reports as to why the Lilywhites actually lost out in the race to sign Schick, there is the possibility that Daniel Levy refused to meet his release clause.
It is understandable that £22 million is a lot to pay for someone so young, and unproven in the Premier League, but in today’s day and age, that sort of price for a talented youngster cannot be baulked at, if a club is serious about competing for major honours on all fronts.
Tottenham’s Harry Kane
Harry Kane is undoubtedly one of the best strikers around, and the Czech star would have found it next to impossible to oust him as Spurs’ leading man, but he would arguably have been a better back-up option than Vincent Janssen, who has really struggled to settle in north London.
And if Tottenham fail to go one step further and win the Premier League this season, they might look back at their failed pursuit of Schick as a major contributing factor as to why.
Unless they have another exciting transfer target up their sleeves of course…
